While attending a celebrity guest panel at a Con a few years ago, I heard a consistently asked question for all voice actors. “How do I get into voice acting?” The answer given was a mix of “find an agent” and a non-answer. Even though I was only a few years into my acting career, I felt that the audience member needed a more comprehensive answer. Which is where I got the idea for Voice Acting: Year One.

Voice Acting: Time To Audition
Voice Acting: Time to Audition is the “part 2” in the series of panels, meant to specifically address the auditioning process. Whether you’re doing your 1st audition or your 5,000th, auditioning is the nerve wracking requirement for every aspiring voice actor. But what are some of the common mistakes that you want to avoid?
This particular panel is designed to be an interactive workshop to get the audience more comfortable with the auditioning process. A quick presentation that covers:
Common recording requirements
Steps to “warm your voice” before a performance
Performance do’s and dont’s
Voice Acting: Year One
Voice Acting: Year One is the original panel created in this series to get audience members from the “dream” of wanting to be a voice actor, to their first months behind the mic. A 60 minute ride for the audience to learn, laugh, and get inspired to take their first steps into this amazing world.
The first quarter of the panel is dedicated to answering the primary questions about voice acting, through a detailed slide presentation.
The different types of voice acting?
What equipment to get?
Where do I find auditions?
The rest of the remaining time is for the audience to ask their specific questions. Ranging from character specific performances; the realistic challenges of starting as a voice actor in today’s market; how we set our rates for our performances; and more
This panel has been an absolute hit at conventions across the country. With consistently packed rooms of aspiring voice actors of all ages and experience levels.
